Hi, my name is Nathalie Bressa and I am a PhD student at Aarhus University. My research interests are in Information Visualization and Human-Computer Interaction.
Sketching and Ideation Activities for Situated Visualization Design
We report on findings from seven design workshops that used ideation and sketching activities to prototype new situated visualizations - representations of data that are displayed in proximity to the physical referents (such as people, objects, and locations) to which the data is related. Designing situated visualizations requires a fine-grained understanding of the context in which the visualizations are placed, as well as an exploration of different options for placement and form factors, which existing methods for visualization design do not account for. Focusing on small displays as a target platform, we reflect on our experiences of using a diverse range of sketching activities, materials, and prompts. Based on these observations, we identify challenges and opportunities for sketching and ideating situated visualizations. We also outline the space of design activities for situated visualization and highlight promising methods for both designers and researchers.
Treeculator
The Treeculator implements a novel calculator concept for Android to provide an alternative to existing calculator apps.
Calculations are represented in a tree structure consisting of number nodes and operator nodes. The app uses touch input to create and edit calculations.
This project included the design of a calculator concept, the implementation in Android and conducting a user study that compares the Treeculator to two other calculator apps.
Plant Watering via mobile app
Never forget to water your plants again! Water your plants located at home from anywhere with just a smartphone app.
The system consists of a Raspberry Pi, a Phidget InterfaceKit connected to a light sensor and a temperature sensor, a Phidget AdvancedServo connected to a servo motor and an Android app.The Phidgets are connected to the Raspberry Pi which runs a web service that enables the communication between the app and the phidgets. The watering can is attached to the servo motor. When a watering action is requested, the servo motor tilts the watering can so that water flows through the can to the plant.
Kinect Rubber Duck
Concept
Interact with your rubber duck!
This projects enables interacting with a rubber duck in a bath tub through gestures captured by a Kinect camera.
US election newspaper endorsements
The visualisation displays the data of endorsements for presidential candidates of the top 100 major US newspapers for the last ten presidential elections of the USA.
The visualization deals with the question whether there is a connection between newspaper endorsements and the actual results of US presidential elections.
Pantheon Visualisation
This project visualizes the Pantheon data set which is a collection of Wikipedia biographies of globally famous people developed in the Macro Connections group at The MIT Media Lab.
The information of the data set is visualized in three different ways based on different selected questions for each visualisation.
